Secretary and sofa...not together forever

Love this cute secretary on tall legs. It looks like it is standing at attention by the door. Would look top notch if painted a pretty colour. How about a nice, citrus-y yellow?
Eek! I like this laid-back, low-slung grey velvet sofa by Cassina. It looks super comfortable and has a 1970s vibe. El perfecto for the man-cave.

These two pieces would look awful in the same space, though. Don't think I don't see that!

Grim Reaper plus four

You all know I have been contemplating the meaning of 1980s glam furniture and finishes. Or maybe you haven't. In any case, here is a gem of a photograph that really makes one wonder.

From the awkward shape of the chairs to the dark permanence of the table, this is one heavy set. I'm sure it was meant to denote a sexy, tough chic when it was built. No doubt it was inspired by hair metal and those black leather jackets with lots of flounce.

And what's with the cinder-block room? It looks to me like the Grim Reaper and his pals are meant to come inhabit this scene.

Patio sets and more

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this table meant for holy water? Doesn't it look like something you'd see in a chuch? Either that, or it's an interesting spitoon....
Togo knockoffs. Loverly.
Fabulous Mission-style dresser. Lots of drawers!
This has a sort of autumn vibe--it's a metal wall hanging, handmade. It's strange...I like it. I think someone with a taste for the rustic decor might enjoy it too.
I've been looking at patio sets lately. This black iron one is OTT.
I just love these perforated iron tables and chairs with built-in spring systems. They're so comfortable. But this set seems to have no cushions. (The price is right, however.)
Here we have a set that has cushions intact. Very nice! And the round table would work in so many different sizes of spaces.
Brown leather couch, just because. I have long wished for a Catherine sofa by Montauk. If I squint, this is a lot like it. But not the same.

Digging the classical styling of this chest. Would look great in a minimal setting.

Predictable?

Am I becoming predictable? Am I just instantly going to fall for anything that combines neutral shades with gleaming brass? Maybe. Perhaps I should embrace this, though. Maybe it's my "thing."

These are fantastic chairs. Don't even try to argue.

Demilune #1

My latest personal search is for a demilune table. How cute is this one? It has a fluted edge just like a pie crust. And it features adorable feet.

Red chair

The photo is small, but I think I love this French provincial chair.

Short break

I've just decided to close all my craigslist tabs and take a short breather--but I'll be back! Until then, ponder how this Kleenex box cover could be yours. Would you call this furniture? I guess it does furnish a cardboard box of tissues, in a sense. From the post:

"Tissue box decorative cover. New, never used. Christy Michaels Collection. Material is made from fine straw fibres. The variations in shading and texture are characteristic of this fabric and gives the fabric its natural beauty."

That, my friends, is some bombastic copy. Ciao for now!

Writing desk

This is described as a ladies' writing desk from the 1920s or 30s...not sure why it is particularly for women, but there is something about it that speaks to me, so hey--maybe it is for ladies. Just $165.

Modern chic

I don't think I can make it to the big bazaar up at the Artscape Wychwood Barns today, but you totally should! Chris and friends from StyleNorth will be there, and it looks like they're selling some great stuff!

Here is a rather ostentatious yet handsome modern bar cabinet...at more than a 50% discount, it's still two grand.

And here is a 1980s buffet in white with radical diagonal lines being offered for cheap. I used to always love Toronto condos when I was young--you know, like the ones on Avenue Road, north of St. Clair. This buffet would suit that sort of mood.
I am attracted to this chaise.

Check this lovely upside-down sofa...with tufts. It is my opinion that tufts are for the backs of furniture, and not the cushions (where crumbs get stuck).

LAMA, business of dreams

Remain calm, people, these two chairs are NOT for sale on Toronto craigslist. They are a beautiful duo designed by Edward Wormley sometime in the middle of the last century, and they were part of a recent auction by Los Angeles Modern Auctions, aka the business of my dreams.

You might have known all along about LAMA, but I just learned about it--and its palpitations-inducing furniture and art auctions in L.A.--on the lovely blog You Have Been Here for Some Time. (Click through for more photos of high-quality modern antiques by the likes of Serge Mouille, Le Corbusier, etc.)

Even though we'll probably never find authentic designer furniture in pristine condition amid the listings for folding chairs and tissue-box covers on T.O. craigslist, it's still nice to fantasize that some day it might happen!

Snap up this excellent teak secretary for only $200! What more can I say.

Patio styling

I'm having a patio installed (yipee), so patio styling is on my mind. Take this interesting illuminated planter from DWR. It's tall and narrow, so it could fit discreetly into a smaller urban back yard, but would it look good, or bizarre? It seems particularly suited to grasses.

(There are two of these posted at the moment--this one is $90. The other is $425. You decide.)
Next, a Luxembourg table by Fermob at a major discount. Love these tables--so cute and utilitarian at the same time.

Vouchsafe

I can vouch for the stability and loveliness of this bed frame, because it is identical to the one that I purchased only a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you remember the saga of the box spring. Well, with a low-profile box spring, it is now 100% perfect. The headboard is so comfortable, too.

1966

Perfectly acceptable sectional sofa.
Glamorous lacquer table with creamy marble top, for those bringing back that suburban 1980s look.
Gigantic walnut dining table (already set!).
This cabinet would be great for sewing supplies. (Is it the same one from two days ago, but different photos?)
This teak bench is really nice to look at...I wonder if it is comfortable to sit upon.
Once in a while, I come across something that is really to die for (figuratively). This desk set from 1966 is such an item. I have spent now many minutes trying to mentally integrate it into my house. I have serious feelings for it.
Two nice, delicate side tables. I like the look of glass-topped tables in the living room, because of their light appearance. It's not good to have too much wood furniture without balance.

Great bedside table!

Tiger

Imagine this beauty piled high with books, with a beautiful light fixture hanging above it. I simply love this stately desk.
